Camp Creek, Pipestem and other State Parks, WV
< Back to WV VIPP Main
This entry is purely for historical purposes. The
West Virginia Very Important Parks Person Program
usually has a picnic once a year for their
VIPPs as a way
of saying thanks for participating in the program and visiting West Virginia
State Parks. The picnic for 2016 was held at
Camp Creek State Park.
So I signed up to go to this picnic. I booked a campsite for Friday and

Saturday nights, August 26th and 27th, 2016. It was a looooong drive- 309
miles each way. The park is located between the I64/I77 junction and
Princeton, WV. I arrived Friday afternoon, set up my tent, did some day
hiking, ate dinner and then retired for the night.
The next morning I got up early and walked around before and during the start
of the picnic festivities. They had people there making apple butter,
live bluegrass music, other activities and, finally, a fantastic barbeque
lunch with
all the fixins. I got my VIPP card stamped here. And I also got some nice
freebies.
Since I didn't sleep well the previous night I decided to drive home instead
of spending a second night in the park. However, I wanted to stop at as many
state parks as I could on the way home in order to get closer to my 15
required and 5 elective parks. So I set out and hit the following parks:
Pipestem Resort State Park
was only about 20 miles away so I hit that one first. I
think that I stayed there back in the late 1970's. It looked different now.
Then I drove to
Bluestone State Park, WV

time to get home. So I did.
This was a fun trip. I got to see more of the mountain state, met some nice
people, got to tent camp and put a helluva lot of miles on my vehicle. Oh,
and I got 3 more WV State parks stamped on my WV VIPP card!
